OBKA Training Apiary Working Party

We are planning another afternoon at the Training Apiary getting the bees, site and equipment ready for this season.

The forecast is 9c and possible rain! jobs …. if possible we’ll wax some frames for the frame exchange; paint the outside of the hut; second coat of oil on the new long accessible hive; set that up as a bait hive both ends; fit some numbers onto supers and hives; and stocktake swarm control boards … see what we ‘ve got so we can get any that we need (snelgrove / horsley etc) in time for the swarm season. I want to demonstrate various methods; we can weigh the hives and check varroa trays, but at 9c that will be the limit of bee keeping!
