Training Apiary Day 02 April 2023

Not the first day in the Apiary in 2023 but the first one I could get some pictures from 😉

This session was all about getting everything ready for the year and especially making sure we have some good, healthy colonies for the students on the Beginners Course. Thus this session was a bit of frame building, some general tidying up and a quick peek inside a couple of the colonies.

It was a glorious afternoon most of the time, and though borderline warm, ok. They found fresh nectar, and drone brood, so the girls are thinking about swarms. They need the boys to be big and strong before they produce queen cells and swarm so any signs of swarm preparations are a few weeks away yet, but time flies …

We also saw signs of Deformed Wing Virus and varroa mites sitting on the bees.
