BBKA Qualifications

NEW BEEKEEPERS

The Oxfordshire Beekeepers Association strongly recommends that new beekeepers take the BBKA Basic Assessment in Beekeeping to test basic skills and knowledge of the craft. To take the Basic Assessment you should have managed at least one colony of bees for a minimum of 12 months. The assessment is completely practical/oral and is held at the Teaching Apiary in Woodstock. Members of OBKA are on hand not only to induct newcomers into the craft, but to give advice and talks from time to time to interested groups.

ESTABLISHED BEEKEEPERS

OBKA encourages all its members to take a range of written and practical BBKA examinations, including intermediate and advanced theory, microscopy and beekeeping husbandry. The starting point and entry requirement for all other examinations and assessments is the Basic Assessment in Beekeeping.
