OBKA Honey Show 2023

The annual Oxfordshire Beekeepers Honey Show is a major event in the calendar. Indeed so much so that in 2020, during lockdown, the show was held ‘virtually’ with entries being dropped off at Peter Hawkins’ house for judging.

This year we were back at Radley Village Hall, a venue with good parking, good facilities and plenty of room for the show tables.

We had a new computer system to manage entries and collate the results this year. Once entrants have been issued with their unique show numbers the setting out of their entries has to be done with care and precision; the show judge, Claire O’Brien doesn’t miss a thing when judging!

Whilst judging was taking place there was a ‘Bring and Buy’, giving members the opportunity to sell equipment they no longer needed – and for other members to buy items they just didn’t know they wanted!

Once judging has finished and the results collated Claire took us through what she is looking for in the various classes. This is really helpful feedback and information for current and future participants.

And finally the well-deserved cups were awarded. BBKA certificates were also handed out to members who had passed their Basic Assessment during the summer.

Many people are involved in organising and running the show with Peter Hawkins as the overall Show Co-ordinator; the show would not happen without their hard work. The Oxfordshire Beekeepers website has lots of photos of the event and details of the winners of the various classes in the Honey Show and of those who passed the Basic this year; click on the link below:
