OBKA Winter Talk 06 Oct – Preparing Honey and wax products’

Friday 6th October saw our first winter talk of the season. Claire O’Brien hosted “preparing honey/wax for sale and show”. Claire used props and equipment to demonstrate her process from honey extraction to jarring honey, preparing comb either as cut comb, chunk honey or the whole frame, labelling and the label rules, preparing wax in blocks or candles, mead and photography. This had the feeling of a practical session sharing tips and techniques from a qualified honey judge who has shown and won prizes; as well as now being a judge at local and national honey shows. Claire has been invited to judge at our honey show on 19th November so we now have an idea of what she will be looking out for.

Claire invited all the attendees to sample the honey and honey products that she had brought along as well as inviting questions. a thoroughly interesting evening for all who attended.
